Disinformation on rise on social media, says Indian Army
Some Twitter accounts have spread morphed screenshots of TV news channels in an attempt to communally divide the Army.
New Delhi: The Indian Army on Friday said that in the last three weeks, the disinformation campaign by the “adversary on digital media has increased.”
All ranks have been well sensitised of these disinformation campaigns and all ranks can see through the lie, deceit and deception of the terror sponsors, said the Army.
In the current scenario, the Indian Army remains fully prepared for emerging challenges, it said.
In the past few days, there has been an attempt to spread false information about the Army on social media, especially Twitter. There have been false tweets about a large number of people being killed on the Indian side of the line of control (LoC) in firing from Pakistan.
Some Twitter accounts have spread morphed screenshots of TV news channels in an attempt to communally divide the Army. Some fake Twitter accounts are spreading malicious propaganda about soldiers not getting food.
Information warfare in the age of social media is emerging as a new threat which needs to be countered. Meanwhile, there was a ceasefire violation by Pakistan in Shahpur and Kerni sectors in District Poonch (J&K). “At about 1800 hours onwards, Pak initiated unprovoked ceasefire violation by heavy shelling with artillery, and firing of small arms along LoC in Shahpur and Kerni sectors in District Poonch (J&K). Indian Army is retaliating strongly & effectively,” said an official statement by the Army.
