New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday stayed the proceedings before Delhi high court in Rs 272 crore aviation scam involving grant of favourable traffic rights to three foreign private airlines without any reciprocal gains to national carrier Air-India as Enforcement Direct-orate (ED) objected to senior lawyers, described as local lawyers, defending the fugitive Aditya Talwar.
Corporate lobbyist Deepak Talwar and his son Aditya Talwar are alleged beneficiary of the scam in which former aviation minister Praful Patel too was quizzed.
Talwars are being investigated by ED for alleged money laundering in the aviation scam that can be traced to 2009-2009 decisions when UPA was in power.
A top court bench of Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi, Justice Deepak Gupta and Justice Aniruddha Bose stayed the proceedings as solicitor general Tushar Mehta objected to the alleged fugitive Aditya Talwar being permitted to be defended in Indian courts through local lawyers.
