Congress lends support to anti-dam stir in MP

Bhopal: In an apparent bid to ensure that the ongoing stir demanding proper rehabilitation of people facing displacement due to the Sardar Sarovar Dam (SSD) project is not derailed owing to forcible hospitalisation of social activist Medha Patkar spearheading the movement on Monday, the Congress on Tuesday came forward to lend its support to the agitation.

Madhya Pradesh Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Arun Yadav visited Barwani in MP where the demonstrators sat on “Jal Satyagraha” demanding suitable rehabilitation and resettlement. Mr Yadav took a strong exception to the use of force by the state government to break the protest by the project-affected people and vowed to back them.
