Congress has criminal mindset: Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi
Naqvi said that triple talaq is an evil practice like sati and child marriage.
Mumbai: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Union minister for minority affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi on Saturday slammed the Congress for claiming that it would return to power and scrap the triple talaq bill and attributed these statements to its “criminal mindset”. “The Congress does not have any subject (to bring up) and it will not come to power in the next 25 to 30 years,” he claimed.
Two days ago, Mahila Congress chief Sushmita Dev alleged the triple talaq bill was “yet another tool of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to put Muslim men behind bars”. Ms Dev had said that the Congress opposed the bill in Parliament. “I promise you that the Congress will come to power in 2019 and we will scrap this law,” she had said.
Mr Naqvi said that triple talaq is an evil practice like sati and child marriage. All criminal acts have been stopped. Triple talaq is a very serious crime in comparison with them. More than two dozen Islamic countries have abolished triple talaq and declared it a criminal activity.
Just ahead of election season, the BJP has launched a campaign, Bharat Ke Mann Ki Baat, Modi ke Saath, to gauge the views of the people in order to make the manifesto the party. Mr Naqvi and railway minister Piyush Goyal had held a joint press conference to inform the people about the campaign.
Mr Goyal said that Mr Naqvi is in charge of this campaign. Suggestion boxes have been placed at 7,500 locales across the country. Suggestions have also been invited on social media.
