Bills passed for movement of fake Army units: CBI

New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a criminal case against some officials of defence accounts for cheating the defence ministry of more than Rs 50 lakh by submitting fake bills on account movement of Army unit. The accused includes one Ashwani Kumar, a record clerk and some other who gave forged bills to the tune of Rs 53.63 lakh showing the movement of Army unit, number 604SIU, which was posted in Jammu.

CBI sources claimed that the movement of the troops of this particularly Army unit never took place. The matter was referred to the CBI by the defence ministry after it was revealed that the fake bills got cleared due to heavy rush on account of end of financial year in March, 2016.

However, defence accounts officials got suspicious when similar bills were submitted for the next financial year.
