India sends back British MP from Delhi airport over 'inappropriate visa'
MEA said Lord Carlile's intended activity in India was incompatible with purpose of his visit as mentioned in his visa application.
New Delhi: British parliamentarian and adviser to the legal team of former Bangladesh Prime Minister and BNP chief Khaleda Zia, Lord Alexander Carlile has been denied entry into India on his arrival in New Delhi for not having the appropriate Indian visa, the Ministry of External Affairs said.
MEA spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said Carlile's intended activity in India was incompatible with the purpose of his visit as mentioned in his visa application.
Raveesh Kumar said the British national had arrived in New Delhi on Wednesday without having obtained the appropriate Indian visa. "His intended activity in India was incompatible with the purpose of his visit as mentioned in his visa application. It was, therefore, decided to deny him entry into India upon arrival," he said on Wednesday responding to a query.
Meanwhile, Lord Carlile had told Dhaka Tribune that since he was not been permitted to come to Dhaka, he wanted to hold a press conference in India "to explain the complexities in Khaleda Zia's case to the international media community".
