New Delhi: The BJP will celebrate Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday on September 17 as “Sewa Divas.”
The BJP has asked its workers, supporters, leaders, including ministers in party ruled states, to participate in cleanliness drive and organise medical camps in colonies habitated by those involved in sweeping, including manual scavenging. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be in Ahmedabad on his birthday to seek blessings from his mother, Heeraben and will also dedicate Narmada Dam to the people of Gujarat. He will also address a public meeting in Dabhoi. Assembly elections in Gujarat are scheduled by the end of this year and Mr Modi’s visit is seen as BJP’s election campaign to utilise the occasion to showcase development and growth under its rule.
The Prime Minister will also be in Gujarat with his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe, who will reach there on September 13.
Last year also, the ruling BJP had celebrated Mr Modi’s birthday as ‘Sewa Divas’ and organised cleanliness drives across the country. A letter from the BJP headquarters to its state units, have asked party leaders to organise cleanliness drive at schools, hospitals, bus stops and statues in their respective areas. The party will also organise plantation drives at the district levels in each state.
It could be recalled that the Prime Minister in his last month’s radio programm ‘ Mann ki baat’ had urged the people to practice cleanliness campaign and had also asked them to start ‘Swachhta hi sewa hai’ campaign 15 days before October 2 Gandhi Jayanti and give renewed focus to cleanliness.
