Bhopal: An ambitious plan by the Madhya Pradesh unit of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), BJP’s youth wing, to further saffron agenda through an online quiz competition in schools and colleges across the state on January 23 has raised opposition hackles.

“The motive behind organising such a quiz competition is very clear. The BJP plans to woo students in the state through such programmes keeping in view the 2018 Assembly elections,” Congress spokesman Pankaj Chaturvedy told this newspaper on Monday.

Titled “Mere Deendayal” after Deendayal Upadhyay, the quiz seeks to raise awareness about him and the schemes of the BJP-led state government and Centre.

The Congress has opposed the BJYM’s plan, citing a “conspiracy” to “brainwash” and “saffronise” the tender minds of students in schools and colleges.

State BJYM president Abhilash Pandey, however, dismissed the charges, saying that the “Congress is opposing the programme only for the sake of opposition”.

“It is a motivational programme for students and youth. It has nothing to do with politics,” Mr Pandey claimed.

According to him, BJYM planned to mobilise 30 lakh school and college students through online registration to participate in the January 23 international quiz competition, which would primarily focus on ideologies of Deendayal Upadhyaya and youth policies and programmes of MP government and the Centres.
