New Delhi: As the farmers’ march, organised by Marxists, made major waves at the national level, the Congress on Monday rushed to latch on to the red bandwagon with party president Rahul Gandhi directing his party workers as well as leaders to “go all out to support the farmers”. The 180 km ‘Kisan’ march, which entered Mumbai on Monday, was spearheaded by the CPI (M)-affiliated All India Kisan Mahasabha.

In Delhi, the Congress party equated the farmer’s agitation with the ‘Dandi’ march which was an act of non-violent civil disobedience movement led by Mahatma Gandhi during British rule.

Monday marks the 88th anniversary of the Dandi march.

The day for the Congress began with a tweet from the Congress President: “The mammoth farmers march to Mumbai is a stunning example of people’s power. I appeal to PM Modi and the CM to not stand on ego and to accept their just demands”. He also made a similar demand before entering Parliament. Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said: “On the 88th anniversary year of Dandi march, the farmers of the country are again out on streets”. He revealed that Mr Gandhi has directed that all leaders and workers should support them.
