Middleman linked to Vyapam scam held

The CBI on Tuesday arrested an absconding middleman wanted in at least six cases pertaining to the multi-crore Vyapam scam in Uttar Pradesh.

New Delhi: The CBI on Tuesday arrested an absconding middleman wanted in at least six cases pertaining to the multi-crore Vyapam scam in Uttar Pradesh. Sources said the middleman, Dilip Gupta, allegedly have links with several state level politicians, was absconding since the cases were being investigated by Special Task Force (STF), Bhopal.

“The accused was allegedly figuring as middleman in six cases pertaining to illegal selection of candidates through manipulations of the OMR answer sheets and results in conspiracy with certain Vyapam officials and others,” sources said. Gupta allegedly arranged various candidates for illegal selection through examinations conducted by Vyapam, they said adding that the Special Judge, CBI, Bhopal had issued an arrest warrant in respect of the accused, who remained absconding during investigation conducted by STF as well as after the investigation was taken over by CBI.
