Varun Gandhi vows to give Rs 5 crore for child care centre

He hoped that with sufficient additional funds from external donors, the paediatric wing would begin functioning in six months.

Lucknow: Moved by the Gorakhpur tragedy, BJP MP Varun Gandhi has ple-dged Rs 5 crores from his MPLAD funds to build a state-of-the-art paediatric wing in the district hospital in Sultanpur which is his parliamentary constituency.

In a release from Mr Gandhi’s office, the BJP MP said, “The human tragedy in Gorakhpur has left me jolted. While grieving the terrible loss of lives of all the children, the incident must also act as an impetus to take actions that serve as a deterrent to recurrence of such an event.”

Mr Gandhi said that he had spoken to the chief medical superintendent, the chief medical officer and the district magistrate of Sultanpur on Monday morning in this regard.

“I have pledged an amount of Rs 5 crore from my MPLAD fund to build a model hospital paediatric wing,” he said.

He hoped that with sufficient additional funds from external donors, the paediatric wing would begin functioning in six months.
