2-yr-old boy in Andhra rescued from open borewell after 11-hr rescue op

A team of doctors examined the boy and declared that boy not injured but was only dehydrated.

Guntur: After being trapped at 15 feet depth in a hundred feet abandoned borewell two year old Guntur boy, Anamaluru Chandra Sekhar (Chandu) was rescued safely on intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday.

Huge rescue operation taken up by Police, Fire, Revenue and NDRF teams for around 11 hours have ended successfully and Chandrasekhar who struck in borewell have come out safely without a single injury.

Rescue operation, which started around 5:30 pm on Tuesday was almost done by 10:00 pm where rain created and obstacle initially and it was a huge limestone boulder which created problems for the team. Huge hydraulic drills were then brought into operation and officials have almost worked for four hours to create a hole to borewell and boy was rescued safely at around 3:15 am on Wednesday.

Parents of the boy thanked officials and NDRF for their efforts in bringing out boy alive. “We lost all our hope and it was district officials who gave support to us and prayers of crores of Telugu people who prayed for my son have save him,” says Anusha mother of Chandu.

On Tuesday, Anamaluri Chandrasekhar accidentally fell into a 100-ft-deep borewell in Ummadivaram village in Vinukonda mandal of Guntur district.

The boy’s parents shouted for help when they saw him falling in at 4:00 pm.

Locals rushed to the spot and tried to rescue the boy with ropes. The child responded to his mother’s call so it was obvious that he was still alive.

The police, fire, and revenue officials then arrived and began operations by engaging two huge JCBs to dig a huge well parallel to the bore well.

Oxygen pumped into borewell to rescue child.

Guntur district collector Kona Sasidhar and Guntur Rural Superintendent of Police Appala Naidu also arrived at the site and called in an NDRF team to help in the rescue efforts.

Medical teams too arrived and started pumping oxygen into the bore well with a pipe.

“More than 150 revenue, police, fire, and other officials have reached the spot and started rescue operations. The boy is responding to his mother's call and a parallel bore well of 25 feet has been dug,” said Sivanagi Reddy, tahasildar of Vinukonda.

The NDRF team that arrived at around 7 pm identified the child's movements with the help of a micro camera and confirmed his position 16 feet deep in the borewell.

NDRF teams used a robotic hand to “hold” the boy.
