Lucknow: The Akhil Bhartiya Jat Arakshan Sangharsh Samiti (ABJASS) has asked the Jat community to vote against the BJP in the upcoming byelections in Kairana and Noorpur later this month.

Yashpal Malik, the national president of the ABJASS  told reporters, “The Modi government has been making false promises to Jats ever since they came to power regarding reservation for Jats. This time we are going to boycott the BJP in the byelections”.

Mr Malik said that the BJP government in Haryana had opened fire at Jats when they were holding demonstration in support of their demand.

“Since then, the government has filed false cases against Jat youth. We want all Jat brothers in Kairana and Noorpur to ask local BJP workers and candidates to vote against BJP,” he added.

The Kairana Lok Sabha seat fell vacant after the death of sitting BJP MP Hukum Singh in Febru-ary. Jats and Gujjars are the two of the largest chu-nks of voters in Kairana. While BJP leaders are confident that Gujjar voters will stick with the BJP out of sympathy for decea-sed MP Hukum Singh, who belonged to the Guj-jar community, the Jat voters could prove to be the kingmakers of Kairana. In Noorpur, where the BJP’s Lokendra Singh Chauhan won in both 2012 and 2017, the BJP is facing a tough challenge with the BSP possibly transferring its vote to the SP. Lokendra Singh died in a car crash in February and his wife Avni Singh is the BJP candidate.
