Rajnath Singh calls up J&K CM, governor after bus accident

The state administration has already made efforts to airlift the injured passengers to Jammu for treatment.

New Delhi: In the wake of a bus accident killing 16 Amarnath pilgrims, home minister Rajnath Singh spoke to both J&K governor N.N. Vohra and CM Mehbooba Mufti on reviewing the situation and providing possible assistance through Central agencies. 

During his telephonic conversation, Mr Singh was informed about the relief and rescue operations being carried out at the accident site in J&K’s Ramban district. 

The state administration has already made efforts to airlift the injured passengers to Jammu for treatment. 

The state government has also set up helplines — 091-2560401 and 0191-2542000 — to provide information to relatives. 

Offering his condolence, the home minister tweeted, “My heart goes out to the families of Amarnath Yatris who lost their loved ones in the bus accident. My prayers are with the injured.”

Both the governor and CM informed the Centre that adequate arrangements had been made for the accident victims who were from different states. According to the state government’s report, as many as 16 pilgrims died while 30 others were injured when a state roadways bus fell into a deep nullah on Sunday afternoon.
