New Delhi: Sacked Samajwadi Party leader Ram Gopal Yadav, who is close to UP chief minister Akhilesh Yadav, was on Thursday brought back to the party and will continue as SP General Secretary and spokesperson.

“Even though they had removed me from the party, I was always with the party in spirit,” Ram Gopal Yadav said after being reinstated. “I have never said or done anything against the party line. I will be part of SP Central Parliamentary board,” he added.

Ram Gopal had been expelled from the Samajwadi Party by Mulayam’s brother Shivpal Yadav in a tit for tat action after four ministers of his camp, including himself, were expelled from the UP government by Akhilesh Yadav last month.

Announcing the decision, state party chief Shivpal Yadav levelled serious charges of corruption, manipulation and sabotage against Ramgopal. He accused Ramgopal of conniving with the BJP to harm the Samajwadi Party.

Last week, Ramgopal Yadav broke down in front of the media while defending the corruption charges levelled against him and said that injustice has been meted out to him.

“I still believe that I am a part of the Samajwadi Party even if I am not operating officially,” he had said.
