UP: Couple commits suicide over opposition to relationship

The duo jumped before the train near the village on Friday as their families were against them getting married.

Bijnor: A young couple committed suicide by jumping before a train in Uttar Pradesh's Bijnor district after they faced resistance to their relationship from their families.

Alok Saini, 21, and Varsha Saini, 20, were in a relationship for the past three years and wanted to marry, but their families were opposed to the relationship, police said.

Alok worked at a private company in Delhi and Varsha was an undergraduate student at a college in Nagina town.

The duo, who belonged to Khushalpur Matheri village, jumped before the train near the village on Friday, police said.

Varsha died on the spot while Alok succumbed to his injuries on the way to a hospital in Meerut, said SHO Nagina Police Station.

The bodies have been sent for autopsy, he said.
