PM must speak up on matter, says Congress
The Congress leader also referred to serious allegations of sexual misconduct against BJP MLA Senger in Unnao.
New Delhi: After the resignation of Union minister M.J. Akbar, the Congress launched a scathing attack on the Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his silence on the issue.
Congress spokesperson Ragini Nayak said, “The radio silence of the Prime Minister Naren-dra Modi has deceived those crores of women voters who had placed their faith, reposed their trust in the BJP in 2014.” She further added that, it was the Congress that first demanded the resignation of Mr Akbar.
Taking a dig at the Prime Minister she said, “PM Modi who does not spare a single opportunity to share his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ particularly on the issue of ‘Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao’ has not spoken a word till date - not a single word has come out from the PMO.”
The Congress leader also referred to serious allegations of sexual misconduct against BJP MLA Senger in Unnao.
Recalling instances of Kathua rape case, exploitation of girls in Muzaffarpur, Bihar, Ms. Nayak termed the government as a ‘misogynist government’.
Earlier Congress leader Anand Sharma had said, “It is for the prime minister to speak on this issue, let the country judge its PM by his actions. So far his silence is conspicuous. This question is not only the moral authority of the government, but his own also, and the dignity of the office he holds,” He claimed a prime minister, who talks of women dignity, has chosen to be silent. After Mr. Akbar claimed of a political conspiracy ahead of the elections the Congress chided him.
Congress spokesman Ms. Priyanka Chaturvedi had said, “I wonder how over a dozen women sharing their experiences can be claimed as political conspiracy? Bigger wonder is which constituency does his stepping down impact in elections? The only clear answer is that this government is actively protecting & promoting the sexual perverts”
