Talks for SP-Cong tieup in Madhya Pradesh begin

Bhopal: The Congress has set in motion the process to forge poll alliance with the Samajwadi Party (SP) in Madhya Pradesh .

SP president and former chief minister Akhilesh Yadav is scheduled to arrive here on Thursday to initiate talks with MP Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Kamal Nath in this regard, Congress spokesman here said on Wednesday.

Mr Yadav was scheduled to hold discussions with Mr Nath at latter’s official residence here on Thursday. He was also scheduled to meet former PCC president and newly appointed Congress Working Committee member Arun Yadav to give shape to proposed alliance, he added.

Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Ajey Singh dropped hints that the SP chief may hold talks on alliance with Congress in Madhya Pradesh for 2019 assembly elections.

“The talks between leaders of SP and Congress, scheduled to be held here on Thursday and Friday, may create ground for alliance between the two parties in the 2019 parliamentary elections MP.

Both the parties may consider sharing of seats in the upcoming assembly elections keeping in view the proposed alliance between them in 2019 Lok Saha elections”, he added.

The Congress spokesman here claimed that Mr Nath had earlier held talks with BSP supremo Mayawati at Delhi on entering into alliance between the two parties in the upcoming assembly as well as the parliamentary elections in MP. However, the state unit of BSP here denied any such talks between the two parties.
