BSF jawan in food row sacked
BSF claimed that Yadav was given many opportunities to defend himself, but he failed to do so in the court of inquiry.
New Delhi: BSF jawan, Tej Bahadur Yadav, who raised a storm by posting a video on social media about the troops being served poor quality food has been dismissed from service following an inquiry. Senior officials said that the decision was taken following a report submitted by a staff court of inquiry, which was ordered by the BSF immediately after Mr Yadav’s video surfaced on social media.
The jawan, officials added, has been found guilty of violating several service norms, including making “false charges”, shooting a video and posting it on social media.
According to the BSF, Mr Yadav also neglected general orders of the force like carrying two mobile phones while on operational duty, going on a hunger strike over and above posting pictures in uniform on social media.
BSF claimed that Mr Yadav was given many opportunities to defend himself, but he failed to do so in the court of inquiry. Mr Yadav has the option of appealing against the dismissal order in three months. Talking to some news channels, Mr Yadav and his family members said they would approach the high court shortly challenging the dismissal.
The video, posted in January this year, had forced the home ministry to order a detailed inquiry into the incident. In the video Mr Yadav had claimed that while there was provision for procuring ration and other essential commodities, some officers were diverting goods to the open market.
The video was shot while Mr Yadav was posted close to the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir in the 29th battalion. He was subsequently shifted to another battalion in Jammu during the course of inquiry.
