Chit fund case: Mamata Banerjee reacts to the verdict

Kolkata: Welcoming the verdict of the Odisha court on Friday in granting conditional bail to her senior party MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay in the Rose Valley chit fund scam, chief minister Mamata Banerjee wished him a speedy recovery from his illness. . “Sudip Da  has been in politics for a long time. He has been a fighter all his life. He was suffering a lot due to his ill health. He has lost 25kg weight in the past four months. Presently, I am unaware of his health conditions, but I want him to come back and get some rest,” she said.

He should first recover from his illness,” she said when asked to comment about Mr. Bandyopadhyay’s bail. Ms Banerjee had always claimed that Mr. Bandopadhyay was arrested because of vendetta politics on the part of the BJP as the later had been vocal against demonetisation in the Parliament. He was arrested on January 3 by the CBI for his alleged involvement in the Rs 17,000 crore Rose Valley Chit fund case, which is being probed by the agency under the Supreme Court’s directions. After a few days in judicial custody Mr Bandyopadhyay fell sick and was admitted at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar.

Party MP Sougata Roy said, “Nothing much to say. All I can say is that I am really happy that he is out on bail.”

Mr. Bandyopadhyay’s wife Nayna Bandopadhyay, who is also a TMC MLA said, “I am happy that he has got bail, but he is hospitalised and I am deeply concerned about his health.”
