DCP, 8 cops injured by miscreants
Eight policemen were rushed to hospital. Eleven persons have been detained and legal action is being taken, the police said.
New Delhi: Deputy commissioner of police along with eight policemen were injured by a dozen miscreants during the Durga idol immersion in east Delhi's Mayur Vihar area on Friday evening, said the police.
On Friday at about 5:30 pm, deputy commissioner of police (East) Pankaj Kumar Singh was on duty at the Yamuna Ghat with ACP and SHO of Mayur Vihar for arrangements.
DCP Singh was hit on his face by a miscreant who came from behind and hit sideways by a wooden stick. One police gypsy was also damaged besides some other disturbances.
After bringing the situation under control, 11 persons have been detained and further investigation is on, said the police.
According to the police, owing to past experience of traffic congestion, this time separate entry and exit were kept at the immersion sites.
One procession from southeast district's Shriniwas Puri, after the immersion, tried to exit from the entry side, resulting in blockade of traffic.
Jt. CP (eastern range) Ravindra Yadav said the DCP and other staff at the barricades asked them follow the route over which the miscreants who were suspected to be under the influence of alcohol turned up and started hitting the on-duty police officials.
