Hectic lobbying on for LoP posts
Chouhan had met party president Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier this week after the BJP's humiliating poll defeat.
New Delhi: Amid reports that the BJP Central leadership is not in favour of former chief ministers — Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Raman Singh — to be the leader of Opposition in the state Assembly of Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh respectively, hectic lobbying within the party’s state unit has begun for the post. The BJP, which had been ruling Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh for 15 years, lost both the politically crucial states to the Congress in the recently concluded Assembly polls.
While the BJP leadership, sources said, wants an OBC for the post in Chattisgarh, it is considering a Brahmin for the post in Madhya Pradesh, where its upper caste core vote bank showed disenchantment towards the saffron party’s aggressive wooing of the OBCs and SC/ST community. Two senior BJP leaders and former Cabinet ministers- Narottam Mishra from MP and his party colleague from Chattisgarh, Brijmohan Agarwal are camping in Delhi lobbying for the post. For the BJP, losing both the states came as a big jolt because these two were among the party ruled model states. .
Also, former MP chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s proposed ‘Abhaar Yatra’ to thanks the people of the state, also seems to be in trouble as the Central leadership is yet to give a go ahead for it. Sources disclosed Mr Chouhan made the announcement without consulting the organisation.
Mr Chouhan had met party president Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier this week after the BJP’s humiliating poll defeat.
