3 Indians killed in Sri Lanka blasts, confirms Sushma Swaraj

A woman from Kerala, who had settled in Dubai, also died in the explosion, reported news agency IANS.

New Delhi: Foreign External Minister Sushma Swaraj in a series of tweet confirmed that the Indian High Commission in Colombo conveyed that National Hospital has informed about the death of three Indian nationals.

The names of Indian that got killed in the series of blast in Sri Lanka on Sunday Easter are Lokashini, Narayan Chandrashekhar and Ramesh.

Swaraj tweeted, "Indian High Commission in Colombo has conveyed that National Hospital has informed them about the death of three Indian nationals. Their names are Lokashini, Narayan Chandrashekhar and Ramesh. We are ascertaining further details."

"I conveyed to the Foreign Minister of Sri Lanka that India is ready to provide all humanitarian assistance. In case required, we are ready to despatch our medical teams as well," read another tweet from Swaraj.

The Indian High Commission in Colombo said that it was closely monitoring the situation in Sri Lanka.

The powerful blasts -– six in quick succession and then two more hours later -- wrought devastation, including at the capital's well-known St Anthony's Shrine, a historic Catholic Church.

The eight explosions, some of which officials said were suicide bomb attacks, led to an immediate clampdown, with the government declaring a curfew and blocking access to major social media and messaging sites, including Facebook and WhatsApp.

Seven people were arrested and three police officers were killed during a raid on a house in Colombo on Sunday as the death toll from a rash of bombings at churches and hotels in Sri Lanka rose past 200, police and local media said.
