Lucknow: The Yogi Adityanath government has closed its ambitious “Unempl-oyment Allowance” scheme that was initiated by the Samajwadi Party government.

The scheme for unemployed youth was initiated in 2012, when Mr Akhilesh Yadav came to power and the government gave a token allowance to those above 35 years of age, who had remained unemployed.

The move had benefitted over nine lakh unemployed persons but had cost the state Rs 1,113 crore in one financial year alone.

However, for unexplained reasons, the allowance was not disbursed since 2015.
