JEE Advanced to be online from next year
Students need to clear the JEE Mains, before qualifying for JEE Advanced.
New Delhi: In a move towards digital examination system, the JEE Advanced exam for entry to the prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) will be conducted fully online from the next year. Sources said the decision came at a meeting of the Joint Admission Board (JAB) on Sunday. The JAB is responsible for laying down the policy for the examination JEE Advanced exam.
Students vying for the engineering colleges need to clear the JEE Mains test, before qualifying for the JEE Advanced. Earlier, the option to take the Mains test online was introduced and now the JAB has decided to extend it to the Advanced exam in the interest of making logistics and evaluations easier.
More than 1.3 million take the Mains test — of them less than 10 per cent digitally. Of these, two lakh are eligible for the Advanced test, and they will need to sit for the test online. The JEE Mains is an entrance examination for students seeking admission to NITs, IITs and other centrally funded institutions. The JEE Mains exam is conducted both online and through written means.
“The move will ensure greater transparency and avoid instances of paper leak too,” sources in the human resource development ministry stated. To ensure students do not face any problem in taking the test online, provision for three days training will be made where they will be allowed to take mock tests and operate the system.
Schools will also be advised to provide an opportunity to the students so that they can use the computers. With the digital mode introduced, it is also expected to remove the problem of mis-printing in examination question papers, sources added.
