New Delhi: The enigma behind the suspicious murder of Rohit Shekhar Tiwari is getting darker with every passing day as new revelations are emerging indicating that a family feud over property might be the reason behind the alleged murder.

Rohit was the son of former UP chief minister and Congress stalwart N.D. Tiwari. He first met his wife Apoorva in 2017 through a matrimonial website and tied the knot in a high-profile wedding in the national capital last year. On Sunday, Rohit’s mother Ujjwala alleged that her daughter-in-law Apoorva and her family were money minded people and wanted to acquire their entire property.

“Apoorva always had issues with Rajiv and his wife Kumkum. Rajiv is my relative and has served our family since long. He was also OSD to N.D. Tiwari,” she said. She further claimed that reports of Rohit’s affair with Kumkum were baseless and false. “Apoorva’s family wanted to take control of the properties of both my sons, Siddharth and Rohit, because this house is near the Supreme Court where Apoorva is practising law,” said the deceased’s mother.

Sources claimed that some major leads have been found regarding the property. “Apoorva was disappointed and expressed her displeasure over the fact that my eldest son, Siddharth, wanted to give Rajiv’s son, Karthik, a share in the property,” the deceased’s mother claimed. Rohit was admitted to the emergency ward at Max Hospital by his wife Apoorva on April 16. He was declared brought dead by doctors there.

His post-mortem report was given to the police on April 18, wherein the cause of death was stated to be unnatural. The reason was attributed to asphyxia due to ante-mortem strangulation and smothering. Following this, a murder case was registered and the case was transferred to the crime branch.

On Sunday, Apoorva was taken by the police for questioning along with her servant and maid.  She was earlier grilled for eight hours on Saturday.
