Speaker sends notice to 19 MLAs supporting Dhinakaran
Sources said the chief whip submitted the petition to the Speaker after advice from Edappadi Palaniswami and Pannerselvam.
Chennai: Cracking the whip, Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker P. Dhanapal on Thursday sent notices to 19 MLAs owing allegiance to T.T. V. Dhinakaran seeking their reply on a petition submitted by AIADMK chief whip S Rajendran seeking disqualification of their membership.
The MLAs had on Tuesday met governor CH. Vidyasagar Rao withdrawing their support to chief minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami and demanding that he prove his majority on the floor of the House.
Dhanapal, whose name is being pushed for the top job of chief minister by the embattled Sasikala family, sent the notices to these legislators after Rajendran, the party's chief whip in the Assembly, filed a petition before him seeking disqualification the MLAS for “acting without consulting” him.
The Speaker's action had came after CM Edappadi K. Palaniswami, deputy chief minister O. Pannerselvam and senior cabinet ministers held a meeting on the political situation.
