Malkangiri: An upper primary school teacher who allegedly misbehaved with several girl students of his school has been taught a lesson by his wife.

His wife slapped him in front of guardians, fellow teachers and the public during a meeting that was convened to discuss his wrong deeds, reports said on Sunday.

According to reports, Manjeet Bain, a teacher of MV 71 Project Upper Primary School under Kalimela block in Odisha’s Malkangir district, along with another teacher — Pratap Chandra Dehury —had been harassing five to six students of Class 3 and Class 5.

They would allegedly call the students to their rooms on some pretexts and used to touch them inappropriately. The girls, some of whom are tribals, could not initially muster courage to protest as they threatened them of dire consequences.

As the torture of the teachers became unbearable, the students on August 17 approached their head mistress Mahamaya Das and narrated their ordeal.

The block education officer along with other officers went to the school on September 21 for further investigation. A guardians’ meeting was held on the school campus along in the presence of the accused teachers.

The two teachers reportedly admitted their mistakes and gave written undertaking that they would not commit such mistakes again.

Manjeet Bain’s wife, who broke down while the girls narrated their traumatic experiences slapped her husband, until she was refrained by others present at the meeting.

District Education Officer Prasant Mohapatra said the probe into the sexual assault allegation was on and strong actions would be taken if teachers against whom sexual assault charges have been leveled are found guilty.

“If the allegations are found true, stern action will be taken against the teachers involved in the crime,” the DECO said.

Earlier last month, the headmaster and cook of Gobindpur Primary School in Joda Block in Keonjhar district in the state were arrested after students brought sexual harassment allegations against them.
