Bhopal: Around 2.5 lakh cattle in Madhya Pradesh have so far been given Unique Identity or UID under the Information Network for Animal Productivity and Health (INAPH), a Central government project.

The project being handled by National Diary Development Board (NDDB) proposes to bring the entire 90 lakh cattle population in MP under the scheme in two phases.

“We have already allotted 40 lakh tags to be tagged in the ears of bovines to grant them UID numbers. Of them, 2.5 lakh cattle have already been tagged. All the 90 lakh cattle in MP will be given UID in this manner in two phases”, MP animal husbandry joint director and INAPH state coordinator G. Davar told reporters here.

The cattle UID would then be linked to AAdhar number of its owner facilitating the authorities concerned to keep a vigil on illegal sale and purchase, smuggling and abandoning of cattle.
