Jawan hurt in Naxal hit succumbs

Reports said an IAF helicopter deployed for evacuation of injured jawans from the encounter site was also targeted by Maoists.

Bhopal: A district reserve group (DRG) jawan, who was injured in Maoists ambush on Saturday in Chhattisgarh’s south Bastar district of Sukma, succumbed to injuries on Sunday, taking death toll to three.

“Three DRG jawans have been killed and five others injured in the incident. At least a dozen rebels were also gunned down in the 56-hour-long counterinsurgency operation that ended on Sunday morning,” Chhattisgarh special DGP (Naxal operation) D.M. Awasthi said.

The “Operation Prahaar” had witnessed gunbattle between the Maoists and security forces in the remote Chintagufa area for around 12 hours, making it the longest encounter in any Left-wing extremism-hit region.

Meanwhile, reports said an IAF helicopter  deployed for evacuation of injured jawans from the encounter site was also targeted by Maoists.
