Maharashtra cuts syllabus for classes 1 to 12 by 25 per cent

Mumbai: The Maharashtra Government on Saturday announced that syllabus for classes one to 12 will be reduced by 25 per cent so as to reduce the burden on students amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Maharashtra State Council of Educational Research and Training will upload the details about which lessons are omitted from the textbook.    

Since schools have not reopened physically, the government wants to ease the burden on students, so the syllabus will be reduced by 25 per cent for the academic year 2020-21, School Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad said in a statement. While schools remain closed, the academic year has started from June 15 and various alternative methods of learning are being adopted, the minister said.

The Maharashtra State Council for Educational Research recently launched four YouTube channels primarily to help Marathi and Urdu medium students study from home. The channels were launched for students up to class 10, according to the announcement made by Gaikwad. The channels will be later expanded to English and Hindi languages as well, she added.

The channels were launched along with the 12 channels that were launched on Geo TV by the Maharashtra government for students of classes 3 to 12. This made Maharashtra the first state which has started educational channels in four mediums.
