Lucknow: The Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) has written a letter to Aligarh Muslim University vice-chancellor Tariq Mansoor, seeking permission to conduct “shakhas” on the campus.

The letter, sent on Friday, says that the RSS wants to dispel misconceptions that prevail among students belonging to the minority community.

According to sources, the letter has been written by RSS worker Mohd Amir Rashid who says, “A wrong perception is being created that RSS is anti-Muslim whereas it is actually a nationalist organisation.” “If shakhas are allowed on the campus, students will learn what the RSS is all about. The RSS is dedicated to nation's service and does not believe in discrimination of any kind.”

Sources said that the Aligarh Muslim University Students’ Union has strongly opposed the RSS suggestion though there was no official word on the issue from the AMU.
