Odisha DGP asks people not to attack innocents
Several cases were reported across the state where people thrashed a few innocent persons suspecting them as child lifters.
Bhubaneswar: Odisha director-general of police Rajendra Prasad Sharma on Sunday appealed to the people not to attack innocent people by suspecting them as child lifters. The DGP’s appeal came following reports of a series attacks on innocent people at different parts of the state.
“The child lifting incidents reported from various areas were completely rumours and false. The rumours might have been spread on social media following which people suspected gullible people moving at certain localities in search of work and attacked them. We appeal people to inform police if they found suspicious behaviour of people in their localities,”said the DGP.
He has asked the superintendents of police (SPs) of the districts to prevent spread of such rumours if such incidents are reported in their areas.
“The SPs have been asked to clarify such rumours to people of their districts and stop spreading it further,” he said.
Several cases were reported across the state where people thrashed a few innocent persons suspecting them as child lifters. However, the presence of such gang of criminals is yet to come into notice of police.
