Bhopal: Anti-graft sleuths caught commissioner of Satna municipal corporation in Madhya Pradesh, who has recently been felicitated by chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan for his work during the recently-held Simhastha fair, for taking a bribe from a local couple.
The Rewa Lokayukta superintendent of police, Sanjeev Sinmha, told the media on Tuesday that the Satna municipal commissioner, Surendra Kathuria, was caught “red-handed” while taking Rs 12 lakh and jewellery from a doctor couple, Rajkumar Agrawal and Suchitra, in return for not demolishing their residence-cum-nursing home in district headquarters town of Satna.
The doctors had allegedly been asked for a bribe of Rs 50 lakh to withdraw the order to demolish their building.
The commissioner was caught while taking Rs 12 lakh and jewellery as the first installment of the amount he demanded, Mr Sinmha added.
A trap was laid for the officer after the doctors had taken up the matter with the Lokayukta earlier, leading to the accused being caught, the vigilance officer said.
