Tribal leader appointed PCC president
Baghel led the party to an emphatic win in the Assembly elections in December.
Bhopal: AICC on Friday appointed a tribal leader from Bastar the new president of Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee (CPCC). Mohan Karkam, Congress MLA from Kondagaon (ST) in Bastar in Chhattisgarh, has been made the CPCC president. He replaced Chhattisgarh chief minister Bhupesh Baghel in the party post. Mr Baghel who was made CPCC president in 2014, was earlier asked to continue in the party post till his replacement was announced after he became chief minister of Chhattisgarh in December last year. He led Congress to victory in Chhattisgarh in 2018 assembly elections. In another development, Congress MLA from Sarguja district in Chhattisgarh Amarjit Bhagat, who was an aspirant for the post of president of CPCC, was all set to join the Bhupesh Baghel cabinet. Mr Baghel led the party to an emphatic win in the Assembly elections in December, dislodging the Raman Singh government by winning 68 out of the 90 seats that went to elections.
