Saving water: BAF shows the way
BAF had released a list of simple measures that the government and citizens can take up to tackle the water crisis in Bengaluru.
BENGALURU: The Bangalore Apartments' Federation (BAF) announced the launch of the second edition of its annual flagship event – BAMBOOS (“Bengaluru Apartments Making Bengaluru Operationally Outstanding and Sustainable”) – to be held on November 24 at Freedom Park.
The event will see BAF member apartments showcase their best practices in sustainable, balanced and efficient management of water, energy, solid waste management, apartment management and also their contribution to safety, community welfare and civic engagement.
Mr Vikram Rai, Treasurer, BAF, said, “Citizens have to be active partners in tackling the water crisis by reducing consumption through water aerators, water meters and simple water conservation measures along with implementing rainwater harvesting systems and recharging groundwater. This event will help citizens get a better perspective on how to go about implementing these initiatives.”
Water is one of the key themes that will be covered at BAMBOOS. Bengaluru has been facing a severe water crisis with groundwater running dry in many places and Cauvery water supply becoming erratic. BAF had released a list of simple measures that the government and citizens can take up to tackle the water crisis in Bengaluru. These measures were also covered in an online petition which received thousands of signatures.
BAF president H.A. Nagaraja Rao said, “Many apartment communities have ensured water security through ground recharge systems, reuse of STP treated water, effective rainwater harvesting systems, WTP etc. This has reduced the dependence on Cauvery water in many apartments and these initiatives will be showcased during the event.”
