Guwahati: The Assam Police on Saturday arrested a deputy superintendent of police (DSP) for his offensive post on social media, accusing a woman BJP MLA of indulging in flesh trade.
DSP Anjan Bora, who was posted in Dispur, created a major controversy recently by claiming that to make money, one of the BJP legislators was indulging in immoral activities at her office chamber inside the Assam secretariat.
The DSP, who claimed through Facebook, went viral. When approached by local media, Mr Bora said, “I have full proof of my statement and a MLA is not above the law.”
The DSP known for making controversial remarks also clarified, “But her name is not Chakraborty.”
Taking a serious note of this controversial post, the inspector general of police (IGP), administration, registered a case against the DSP in the criminal investigation department. The department called him for interrogation on Saturday, following which he was arrested.
Meanwhile, the CID also conducted a raid at his house and seized his laptop and mobile phones.
Soon after the arrest, the state home department has placed the officer under suspension.
The CID has registered the case under IPC 166/177/506 and 66/67 of IT Act against the DSP for posting an offensive post in social media. The controversial post not only went viral on social media but was also debated widely.
