UP Board: Girl tops Class 10, boys in 12

Lucknow: Anjali Verma of Allahabad topped the Class 10 examinations conducted by UP Secondary Education Board (UPSEB) by securing 96.3 per cent marks.

Rajneesh Shukla from Fatehpur and Akash Maurya jointly made it to the top position in the Class 12 examinations by securing 93.2 per cent marks.

The results of class 10 and 12 were declared on Sunday.

Chief minister Yogi Adityanath telephoned the high school topper Anjali Verma and congratulated her. He said all meritorious students who had made it to the top ten list would be felicitated soon.

The chief minister also lauded the officials who had ensured examinations without use of unfair means and had declared the results in record time.

Deputy chief minister Dinesh Sharma, who holds the education portfolio, told reporters that free and fair examinations had been held in the state without arresting even a single student or teacher.

This year, the results have showed a sharp decline in the overall pass percentage for both classes. The pass percentage for class 10 has declined from 81.2 per cent in 2017 to 75.2 per cent in 2018.

For Class 12, the pass percentage has come down from 82.6 per cent in 2017 to 72.4 per cent in 2018.

The pass percentage for Class 10 is lowest in six years, while class 12 pass percentage is lowest since 2009.
