Chandigarh: Punjab Congress president and Congress candidate for Gurdaspur Sunil Jakhar on Monday said that he had apprehensions of getting Gurdaspur Corridor as Prime Minister Narendra Modi was indulging in irresponsible and inflammatory statements to gain few political points.

He said that PM Modi was escalating tension with the neighboring nation by talking about nuclear power. Such utterances by the Prime Minister may create hurdles in achieving the target of getting corridor functional by November this year on the auspicious occasion of 550th Prakash Utsav, he feared. People of Punjab who had horrible experience of partition in 1947 and decade-long turmoil due to militancy later; have made up their mind to reject BJP outrightly, Jakhar said.

He said that India had not emerged as a nuclear power in the past few years on Modi-rule, but making childish reference to such weapons during the ensuing polls was unwarranted.

“The PM has wasted five years on traveling abroad. He looks hell bent on retaining power for next five years and to achieve the target he may thrust Punjab into a war like situation,” he said.
