Edu bodies flooded, part of road caves in after rains
Chief minister Nitish Kumar, who rushed to assess the situation on Sunday, said that the incident has alerted everyone including the official.
Patna: Heavy rains in the last 48 hours and waterlogging in streets, hospitals and educational institutions have exposed the failures of the state government. Questions are also being raised on the claims of the state government to include Patna into the list of “smart city” in the next few years.
Government officials looked worried after rainwater entered into the wards and ICU of Nalanda Medical College and Hospital, causing trouble for patients who have been admitted there.
Opposition leader Tejashwi Yadav, who uploaded the picture of the hospital, showed fishes swimming in the ICU where cleanliness is crucial to avoid infections to patients and hospital staff. “Nitish Kumar’s model of development — ICU of NMCH is swimming in drain water, fishes were seen in ICU. Mind you, you can’t question Nitish Kumar as his conscience is fast asleep and snoring with BJP,” Tejashwi Yadav said in a tweet.
In another scathing remark on Twitter against chief minister and his government, Mr Yadav said, “Bihar’s 2nd largest Hospital NMCH has turned into an aquarium that too filed with drain water. We hope the JD(U) won’t declare this a stunt by Lord Indra. It seems that now Lord Indra is also highlighting the state government’s failures and mistakes.”
Sources told this newspaper that hospital staff faced difficulty in providing medical support to patients and several machines were also shut down due to water.
It has been raining continuously in Patna for the last 48 hours and according to Patna mayor, the situation has occurred because the hospital is located in the low lying area.
In another major setback for the state government, a part of the busy Bailey Road in Patna caved in due to heavy rains.
Chief minister Nitish Kumar, who rushed to ass-ess the situation on Sun-day, said that “the incident has alerted everyone including the official.
