UP: FIR lodged against BJP MLA for raping minor

Lucknow: A third BJP MLA in Uttar Pradesh has been accused of raping a minor. The accused MLA is Kushagra Sagar from Bilsi in Badaun district.

The victim, now 22 years old, in her complaint with Bareilly SSP has alleged that the MLA Kushagra Sagar raped her for two years on pretext of marriage.

Days after the Unnao rape case drew national outrage, another BJP MLA from Uttar Pradesh has been accused of raping a woman when she was a minor.

“When he (Sagar) raped me for the first time, his father Yogendra Sagar (a former MLA) had assured me that he would get his son married to me the day I reach the age of 18”, she has said in her complaint and added that she had learnt that the MLA’s marriage has been fixed with some other woman.

The victim has threatened to commit suicide if she is not married to the MLA. “He is getting married on June 17. I will not let that happen. I shall commit suicide if he does not marry me. I have been getting threat calls and have become a subject of ridicule in the society”, she said.

The victim, incidentally, is the daughter of the MLA’s domestic help. His father Yogendra Sagar  (former BSP MLA) had also been booked for rape in 2008 and was snet to jail. He was slapped with murder charges after the government counsel was killed in a road accident.

SSP Kalanidhi Naithani said that they have initiated an investigation into the matter and will take appropriate action soon.

The victim told reporters that her life had become miserable after Kushagra Sagar got elected as MLA.

“We are a very poor family. Since my father is unemployed, my mother works as maid in several houses and often took me along to help her. Kushagra started talking to me and promised marriage after which he raped me several times between 2012 and 2014”, she alleged.

The victim also said the MLA had offered to settle the matter in exchange for over Rs 10 lakh but she refused.

Meanwhile, Kushagra Sagar said that his political rivals, who had ruined his father’s political career, now wanted to make a dent in his reputation by hatching a conspiracy against him.

Kushagra is the third BJP MLA to face rape charges. After the Unnao rape case in which BJP MLA Kuldeep Sengar was charged with raping a minor girl and is presently facing a CBI probe, it was BJP MLA from Shahjahanpur Roshan Lal Varma and his son Manoj Varma.
