Grooms family attacked after marriage called off
Few persons from the bride's family allegedly attacked the groom's family with sharp weapons and wooden planks.
Odisha: A dispute over a marriage took a violent turn in Deogaon village under the Tushura police limits in Odisha’s Bolangir district as six persons from the groom’s family, including two women, got critically injured after the marriage was called off by them on Sunday night, reports said on Monday.
According to sources, the marriage was fixed between Madan Rana’s son from Kacharapalipada and Balaram Rana’s daughter from Madanapalipada, both belonging to Deogaon.
However, the groom’s family called off the marriage due to some reasons.
Upset over the decision, few persons from the bride’s family allegedly attacked the groom’s family with sharp weapons and wooden planks thereby injuring them critically.
The injured, which included two women, were immediately admitted to Bolangir District Headquarters Hospital for treatment, while one of them was shifted to Burla Medical after his condition worsened.
Following the incident, a complaint was lodged at the Deogaon police outpost, while the police has begun investigation into the matter. However, the exact reason of the cancellation of marriage has not been ascertained yet.
“I was sitting in my home and the gate was open. Suddenly around 10 persons barged into the house and attacked me with wooden planks following which I fell down. I was unable to recognize them but I heard them talking about the marriage that was called off,” said an injured.
“Probably the bride’s family attacked the groom’s family after the marriage was called off. Further investigation is on,” said inspector Gopinath Mahakud.f
