The Assam police on Sunday achieved another major breakthrough in the ongoing counter-insurgency operations and apprehended 12 hardcore NDFB rebels, including the in-charge of media and publicity wing of the outfit, from their hideouts in Manas Tiger Reserve in Western Assam.
Inspector general of police L.R. Bishnoi, who was leading the operation, told this newspaper that security forces succeeded in apprehending a central committee member of the outfit, N. Phularse, who was also handling the media publicity wing of the outfit.
Informing that huge cache of arms and ammunitions were recovered from them, Mr Bishnoi said that two NDFB cadres, Jakrup and Romalee, who were among the 12 arrested, carry a reward of '5 lakh on their heads. Informing that joint operations was launched in Manas Tiger Reserve on Saturday night, he said that Assam police and SSB commandos are carrying out operations with the backup support of CRPF.
