Bigger role for women in AIMPLB
Muslim women will finally find a greater representation in the working committee of the All-India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB).
Muslim women will finally find a greater representation in the working committee of the All-India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB).
The Board has extended an invitation to women to join the working committee and hopes that a “fair representation of women” will help it deal with their issues in a better way.
At present, there are only seven women, including two special invitees, in the 51-member Majlis-e-Aamla (working committee) of the board and only 31 women in the 251-member general body. According to Mr Kamal Farooqui, working committee member of AIMPLB, the board has been feeling the need to include more women in its committees because issues like marriage, talaq, property rights need a woman’s point of view.
