The BJP suspended its senior leader and party MLC Tunna Pandey after he was arrested by the GRP for allegedly molesting a minor girl on train.

Taking a strict note of the incident, the BJP on Sunday, suspended him from all party positions while terming the act as “serious and heinous” in nature. Sushil Kumar Modi, senior BJP leader and former deputy chief minister of Bihar said, “The party took immediate action against the MLC after he was arrested whereas the ruling grand secular alliance, instead of expelling Shahabuddin, kept him in the national executive committee of the RJD.”

Pandey was arrested at Hajipur railway station by the railway police after the victim’s father registered a written complaint against him. Pandey was later forwarded to 14 days of judicial custody.

According to the police, the victim, who was travelling in the same compartment as the accused, raised an alarm when Tunna Pandey misbehaved with her on Saturday evening. “He was arrested after the girl’s father registered a complaint against him,” Sanjay Singh, officer in charge of Hajipur Railway Station said.

According to police records, the victim was travelling in A1 coach of Poorvanchal Express along with her father when the incident occurred. The police said that the victim was going to Gorakhpur while the BJP lawmaker, who had boarded the train from Durgapur, molested the girl near Sarai railway station on Hajipur-Muzaffarpur section of East Central Railway, late Saturday evening.

The victim’s father also complained that the BJP leader was in an inebriated condition when he tried to molest the girl, police sources later said.

The police further said, “The accused also used foul language and abused her when she resisted his attempt to molest her.”
