BJP plans big rally after oath ceremony in Assam

The Bharatiya Janata Party has decided to hold a massive public rally soon after the swearing-in of its first government in Assam in May 24 in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The party has planned the oath-taking ceremony in the open veterinary college playground at Khanapara.

The oath-taking ceremony will also be attended by BJP president Amit Shah, besides chief ministers of all the NDA-ruled states.

Apart from chief ministers of all the north-eastern states, the party is sending invitations to a number of senior diplomats to the ceremony. The party is expecting over a lakh people to attend the ceremony.

Though the oath-taking ceremony will be hosted by the state government, it will followed by a public meeting which will be addressed by the PM.

The newly-elected BJP MLAs will meet on May 22 to elect Mr Sarbananda Sonowal as its leader. It will be followed by a joint legislature party meeting in which legislators of all the alliance partners would be electing Mr Sonowal as its leader.

Both Mr Sonowal and senior BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma have been camping in New Delhi since Friday for consultations with senior party leaders and discuss the formation of the new council of ministers.

Meanwhile, hectic political activity is underway, with Mr Sonowal and Mr Sarma holding a series of meetings with alliance partner Asom Gana Parishad president Atul Bora and working president Keshav Mahanta.

Earlier, Bodoland People’s Front leaders Hagrama Mahilary and Biswajit Daimary also met them in Guwahati and held talks on government formation.

The new Assembly consists of members from all walks of life, including lawyers, doctors, student leaders, actors, producers and former Indian Information Service officers.
