The rift between the BJP and Shiv Sena seems to be growing with the BJP planning to contest the prestigious Brihanmumbai Mun-icipal Corporation electio-ns on its own. The BJP and Shiv Sena run a coalition government in Mahara-shtra and the latter never misses a chance to take a dig at its ally or the BJP-led Central government.

The Shiv Sena, which had contested the Assembly elections alone, has been dominating the BMC for many years now and the BJP wants to end its ally’s dominance this time. Mah-arashtra saw its first BJP CM when the saffron party won 122 out of 288 Assem-bly constituencies in 2014.
