After Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah, Union home minister Rajnath Singh also said that all other industries have totally closed down in Bengal and the only industry which is flourishing is the bomb-manufacturing industry.
“Earlier Bengal was famous for its jute, textile and other industries but all of them have shut down. Now only bomb-manufacturing factories are thriving in the state,” Mr Singh said addressing an election rally at Bandwan in Purulia. Mr Singh said that if the BJP came to power in Bengal then all those engaged in such criminal activities would be sent to jail. Mr Singh also pointed out the ill-effects of the unchecked illegal infiltration from across Bangladesh. “Only a BJP government can stop infiltration which is depriving the citizens of Bengal of their legitimate rights,” he added.
Mr Singh also pointed out that no concrete measures were taken for the uplift of the local tribals in the region.
Significantly, Mr Singh’s speech lacked sting. He did not attack either the ruling Trinamul Congress or chief minister Mamata Banerjee. The two leaders share a very warm personal relationship. Most surprisingly, Mr Singh was totally silent on the Narada sting video scandal which has shown more than a dozen top Trinamul Congress leaders taking big bundles of notes as bribe. “Neither Saradha nor Narada, Rajnath Singh did not utter a word about corruption. His silence once again confirmed our stand that there is a tacit understanding between the BJP and the TMC. Modi bhai and Didi have reached an unannounced alliance,” CPI(M) leader Rabin Deb said.
