Case against Rakhi Sawant for dress with Modi picture
Bollywood actor Rakhi Sawant has courted trouble again.
Bollywood actor Rakhi Sawant has courted trouble again. This time a court in Meerut has admitted a petition against the actor for wearing a short black dress with the photograph of Prime Minister Narendra Modi printed on it. She wore the dress at a function in the United States recently.
The petition has been filed by a Meerut-based NGO and has been accepted by the court of additional chief judicial magistrate.
Lata, vice-president of Progressive Women Welfare Society, that filed the petition, told reporters: “On August 10, I saw a picture of Rakhi Sawant wearing a dress with Narendra Modi’s pictures printed on it. The picture has gone viral on the social media and is available on the internet too. By wearing such a dress, Sawant has degraded the position of the Prime Minister not just in India but also across the world.” Ms Sawant wore the dress in order to disrespect the PM as she knew that she would get publicity by wearing a dress like that, the petitioner said.
The advocate representing the petitioner said, “We have filed the appeal under Section 156 (3) of CrPc (Any magistrate empowered under section 190 may order an investigation).
We have requested the court to file a case under Section 294 (Any obscene act at public place) and Section 501 (Printing or engraving matter known to be defamatory) of Indian Penal Code (IPC). We have also asked the court to file a case under Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986.”
The court has fixed August 17 as the next date of hearing
