The Congress once again took on the BJP-led NDA government. Congress spokesperson Manish Tewari said, “It has been 10 days since the dastardly attack in Uri. There has been a confused response from the government.” The Congress also accused the government of raising the bogey of MFN, Indus Water Treaty and isolation of Pakistan but in reality nothing substantial has happened. Russia is still doing joint exercises with Pakistan while China is investing in Pakistan.
The issue of Saarc was also criticised by the Congress. Mr Tewari said, “Instead of bringing Saarc to an end it would have been prudent had the government worked to make Saarc Pakistan-free.” The Congress feels that by raising these four issues the government wants to hoodwink people. Interestingly, the Congress said that building dams will require substantial amount of time which will not happen in the tenure of this government. Mr Tewari also added, “Will the volunteers of the BJP and its affiliates form a human dam to stop the water ” The issue of Uri has now turned into a full blown political battle between the government and the Opposition. The Congress will back the government on any issue of national security which means that there will be a bipartisan approach. But questions regarding action taken will be posed from all platforms. The Congress feels that the hype which was created by the BJP when it was campaigning during the elections also needs to be exposed.
In the upcoming Winter Session the Congress will demand that the government come out clean on what all actions it has taken against Pakistan. The list of attacks has been increasing and the Congress is in no mood to let the government get away on this.
